Educated at Leeds University, he trained at RADA then joined Olivier’s National Theatre Company at the Old Vic where he spent 7 years. On television he won acclaim as George Orwell in ‘Orwell on Jura’. He won his only award – ‘Sony Best Actor’ for 1986 for ‘The Awful Insulation of Rage’ on radio
